Factors that have an impact on combat outcome

Find all relevant factors and put a weight on them.

The factors found below will be used for the Combat Rules Engine (CRE)

  • Strength - both actual strength and remaining strength, due to combat losses will have occured.
  • Experience
  • Morale
  • Surprise
  • Deployment - a unit on the road will take more casulaties than a unit properly deployed for combat
  • Terrain
  • Strength of defensive position
  • Chance

For both attacker and defender both above are calculated and then a force ratio is calculated mixed with a chance element and this then determines the outcome for both sides.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Ratio's, extra elements, comments...

By end April 2009 an initial model will be worked out.

(Partial) Initial Model:

  • Chance has a random influence on combat results / losses. the impact as envisaged fluctuates with force ratio.
  • Combat Effectiveness (CE) multipliers
  • Morale range: 0.5 to 1.25
  • Attrition: A formula 100% to 20% CE
    • Attack not possible is attrition is more than 40% or CE is less than 60%
    • Unit shatters is attrition higher than 80% or CE is less than 20%
  • Experience: 0.9 to 1.25
    • Experience is gained by Combat days with less than 40% attrition.
  • Suppresion (due to ARTY shelling etc): 0.2 to 1

The model will be documented in a white paper shortly.

  • Strength - both actual strength and remaining strength, due to combat losses will have occured. - to control on a display?
  • Experience levels?
  • Morale
  • Surprise generated by who? Umpires?
  • Deployment - a unit on the road will take more casulaties than a unit properly deployed for combat : not always
  • Terrain : very important and different possibilities
  • Strength of defensive position
  • Chance

Surprise generated by who? Umpires? = No. more by flanking attack or ambush etc.

Deployment - a unit on the road will take more casulaties than a unit properly deployed for combat : not always = Please explain in more detail

answer: losses depend on the kind of used ammo and the way the units are deployed - 10 Tks on the road is not the same as 10 jeeps  or 10 trucks (with or without personal) - of course the effect of an airstrike on the infantry is heavier than on a column of vehicles - depends on kind of bombs used for attack - smart bomb/laser guided bomb?

mines : are they used?
